ABOUT US

THE BASIS OF COLLABORATION IS UNDERSTANDING

Understanding is where every good story begins. This guiding principle is at the heart of the Placemark Newsroom, which we’re thrilled to unveil today. Starting today, we’re aiming to join the public conversation, focusing on the housing crisis, share our learning, insights, and experience to develop unique, successful communities across western Canada.

Newsrooms are synonymous with staying informed, and if addressing the housing crisis isn’t the news of the moment, we don’t know what is. Our approach will steer clear of propaganda or corporate jargon—there’s already plenty of that in the discourse. Instead, we’ll adhere to journalistic principles: striving to be objective, fair, and balanced. Through thoughtful storytelling, we aim to foster understanding, explore solutions, and

tackle the real-world challenges of development along the way.

As part of this journey, we’ll introduce and expand on a phrase we’ve adopted: “Delivering on the Possibilities of Place.” It’s the basis for our vision and practice for sustainable development and community building, and we believe it also contains seeds for collaboration.

We’ve chosen to call this initiative Newsroom because the issues we’re addressing are timely, vital, and relevant — newsworthy, in short. As one of our team members, Theo Finseth, explains, the name resonates because “the topics we’re going to be exploring are important to all of us, and everybody needs to be engaged with them.”

THE PLACEMARK NEWSROOM IS POWERED BY A TALENTED
TEAM OF DEDICATED PROFESSIONALS

In the weeks and months ahead, the Placemark Newsroom will cultivate a new atmosphere of respect and understanding. We’ll share our stories through feature articles, social media discussions, and newsletters. We’ll strive to demonstrate how our outlook works in our designs and projects across Western Canada, and in our most ambitious moments, we’ll seek the growth of a community of like-minded people who want to work together to build enduring places that address the housing crisis – discovering along the way the Possibilities of Place.

Placemark is a Vancouver-based multi-disciplinary design and development studio specializing in community planning, urban design, land development, resort design, public engagement, and project marketing. For us, design is a collaborative art – one that unlocks the true possibilities of place.

This belief in collaboration and understanding is why we created the Placemark Newsroom. As a platform, the Newsroom extends our mission beyond design and development. It’s a space for meaningful conversations on today’s critical issues – from the housing crisis to sustainable community building, design innovation, and more.

Guided by journalistic principles of objectivity, fairness, and balance, the Newsroom fosters thoughtful storytelling and shared insights. Our goal is to spark dialogue, uncover real-world solutions, and bring diverse voices together to shape a brighter, more inclusive future.

At the core of both Placemark and the Newsroom is our guiding principle: Delivering on the Possibilities of Place. This vision continues to inspire us as we collaborate, communicate, and create communities where people can truly thrive.
